If almost 1,000 universities use the Common App, and the Common App requires a Personal Statement, then it’s likely you’ll need to write one.

Yes, part of the Common App is a 650-word personal statement. Yikes, right?!
It does sound daunting – especially since most colleges also require shorter supplemental essays. And then, there's the UC application that has 4 essays. But we can pound out your Personal Statement ahead of time – this summer.
And here's some good news: You'll be able to modify your Personal Statement later on to fit UC application prompts AND use it for scholarship applications during the spring of senior year.

How to structure a personal statement
(so it keeps the reader’s attention)
How to choose a topic
(so that you stand out and are memorable)
How to outline your personal statement
(so it flows)
How to refine each paragraph
(which means writing up to 5 drafts)
We will use brainstorming exercises that will enable you to pinpoint topics and generate personal examples that can be used to craft effective and meaningful Personal Statements.
I’ll guide you through identifying your values and determining how they are demonstrated in your interests/activities. This will help you more clearly illustrate who you are and what makes you unique.
We will review sample stand-out essays to establish structure and outline options.
I will provide feedback on content, flow, grammar, and sentence structure until your Personal Statment is polished and ready to submit.
